Perth Airport to re-introduce Express pick-up and drop-off at Terminal 2

Perth Airport will commence a four-week public information campaign to reintroduce and reinforce the use of its Express pick-up and drop-off system at Terminal 2.
First introduced in 2019, the Express pick-up and drop-off system is designed to ease congestion on the airport forecourt and surrounding access roads, which had been impacted by motorists parking for extended periods in designated pick-up zones.
The system was temporarily deactivated in 2024 to accommodate forecourt construction works, which have since contributed to improved traffic flow.
Perth Airport will provide a period where motorists who overstay will not be charged, to ensure regular motorists are re-educated on the process. This period will start from 27 July 2026.
Perth Airport’s Chief Commercial and Aviation Officer, Kate Holsgrove, said the Express system will continue to provide motorists with free access for pick-up and drop-off, provided they enter and exit the forecourt within five minutes.
“The challenge we’ve experienced is motorists using the forecourt as a de facto car park, resulting in significant overstays in areas designed for quick passenger movements,” Ms Holsgrove said.
“The five-minute window is sufficient for safe and efficient pick-up and drop-off activity, including allowing for pedestrian movement, while discouraging longer stays that contribute to congestion.”
Ms Holsgrove said the airport will continue to offer one hour of free parking in selected Long Term car parks as an alternative for drivers waiting to collect arriving passengers.
“Motorists can head there and wait for travellers to text them when they are ready to be picked up on the forecourt,” said Ms Holsgrove.
The overstay fees are designed to discourage loitering behaviour on the forecourt.
The system also addresses repeat circulation behaviour, which can further exacerbate congestion. Vehicles exiting the forecourt will need to wait 10 minutes before re-entering to qualify again for a free pick-up.
The Express system’s cameras and boom gates are now operational, with enforcement measures to commence from 31 August following the public information period.
